ATLANTA, GEORGIA, USA - Project Management Institute (PMI®), the world’s leading membership association for the project management profession, has awarded Ericsson with the PMI Community Advancement Through Project Management Award – Organizational Category.
Ericsson received the honor for advancing communities in need with its project management based pro bono Ericsson Response program for international assistance in disasters. The program is designed to work in close cooperation with organizations such as the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and the United Nation’s humanitarian organizations. Ericsson improves the relief work by bringing skilled staff and additional technology to be used in relief operations. The program supports humanitarian operations with no commercial objective or responsibility.
On a request from the United Nations, Ericsson Response supported the relief operation in Muzaffarabad, Pakistan, over a nine-month period. Ericsson Response deployed their WIDER system (WLAN in Disaster and Emergency Response) and on-site volunteers. Relief organizations – for the first time ever – worked on the same local telecommunications infrastructure. This improved communications, increased cooperation and the efficiency of relief work.
The PMI Community Advancement Through Project Management Award was presented on 6 October 2007 during the 2007 Awards Ceremony held in conjunction with the PMI Global Congress—North America in Atlanta.
