Bowman joined PMI in 1979 and in 1984 became the eighth person to earn the Project Management Professional (PMP®) certificate. Bowman is co-founder and Executive Director of the Pittsburgh Project Management Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA. Bowman was also a founding member and served as President of the PMI Pittsburgh Chapter and Vice President-Technical Activities during 1998, where he received numerous awards for his contributions. In addition, he served on the Executive Committee of the PMI Board of Directors in 1999 and then continued as a Director-At-Large on the PMI Board in 2000, as well as serving on the PMI Education Foundation Board of Directors as President in 1998 and 1999.
