Denver, Colorado, USA – Teresa Newton-Terres, PMP, has been awarded the Project Management Institute (PMI) Community Advancement through Project Management award for using her expertise to benefit National Guard families.
The PMI Community Advancement through Project Management Award recognizes a significant achievement or sustained performance that improves the well being of a community by completing a project, multiple projects or by applying project management principles to the pro bono delivery of goods and services.
As a National Guard Professional Education Center (PEC) volunteer, Newton-Terres’ skillful use of project management methods empowered PEC families to be self-reliant and responsibly interdependent to navigate the challenges of military life. She also managed the development of a family program that would support 460 PEC employees, both military and civilian, and over 22,000 yearly attendees from 54 states, territories and Washington D.C.
“It is a testament to Teresa’s effectiveness that the program grew from 60 quarterly contacts in 2003 to well over 2,868 contacts in the first quarter of 2008,” said Lew Gedansky, MBA, director of governance and executive programs for PMI.
The PMI Distinguished Contribution Award was presented on 18 October during the PMI Awards Ceremony at PMI® Global Congress 2008–North America in Denver.
