Denver, Colorado, USA – Teresa Colon, PMP, has been awarded the Component Leadership Award by Project Management Institute (PMI) for her role as a leader in the professional project management community.

This award honors component officers who have effectively guided their component’s operation to significant advancements or achievements for Project Management Institute.  The award is based on nominees’ significant achievements in their component growth, innovative programs and efforts.

During her presidency, Colon increased the level of educational and professional development opportunities for the community and increased the number of programs conducted in collaboration with other organizations. Her plan to increase the quality of the membership experience began by using a more personalized approach to communications.  She then led the creation of a rich range of networking and professional development opportunities, both within the membership as well as with outside organizations.

“Teresa is an excellent example of a leader who delegates well, mentors others and listens and learns from others,” said Brantlee Underhill, CAE, director of practitioner markets for PMI.  “The extensive list of activities and accomplishments during her tenure is a testament to her tenacity, interpersonal and leadership skills.”

The PMI Component Leadership Award was presented on 18 October during the PMI Awards Ceremony at PMI® Global Congress 2008–North America in Denver.
