Seattle, Washington, USA – Project Management Institute (PMI), the world’s leading not-for-profit advocacy association for the project management profession, today announced that the PMI Community Advancement through Project Management Award, in the Organization Category, has been awarded to the 2005 Jeux de Canada Summer Games Planning/Project Management Division for successful implementation of formal project management in planning and organizing the 2005 Summer Canada Games in Regina, Saskatchewan.
The Canada Summer Games is a national sporting event where athletes from the country’s 10 provinces and three territories compete for top honors in 16 sports. This event is held every two years, alternating between summer and winter sports, and the 2005 games hosted by Regina Saskatchewan proved to be the biggest yet, with over 4,500 athletes and 12,000 visitors.
Planning for the games began three years prior to the opening ceremony on 6 August 2005. The 2005 Jeux de Canada Summer Games Planning/Project Management Division was established in early 2003 to implement planning processes and formalize project management. This was the first Canada Games that formal project management had been used.
The PMI Community Advancement through Project Management Award was presented on 21 October during the Awards Ceremony held in conjunction with PMI Global Congress 2006—North America in Seattle, Washington, USA.
