Seattle, Washington, USA – Project Management Institute (PMI), the world’s leading not-for-profit advocacy association for the project management profession, today announced that the PMI Pearl City Chapter is the recipient of the 2005 Community Advancement Through Project Management Award in the Component Category.
The PMI Community Advancement Through Project Management Award—Component Category, instituted in 2003, recognizes and honors a PMI component for a particularly significant achievement or a sustained performance that improves the wellbeing of a community by completing a project, multiple projects, or by applying project management principles to the pro-bono delivery of goods and services.
Taking inspiration from Indian President Dr. A.P.J. Abul Kalam, the PMI Pearl City Chapter initiated a movement called Student Leadership Competency Building (SLCB) to inject leadership competencies in students ages 12-22 to transform India into one of the top developed nations in the world by the year 2020.
SLCB, a 15-year project, encompasses the development of a Leadership Body of Knowledge (LBOK), creation of Leadership Centers of Excellence (LCEs) in association with the academic, industry and government sectors, change management and the generation of millions of leaders through certification. SLCB generates millions of industry ready and nation ready leaders, with a special focus on the rural and semi-urban areas of India.
Dr. Prahlada, distinguished scientist, DRDO, Prof. Rammohan Rao, dean, Indian School of Business (ISB), Mr. Vijay Prasad, director and senior vice president, Satyam Computer Services comprise the SLCB advisory board, and provide necessary direction and guidance to take SLCB to the next level.
