Candidates must have delivered the nominated project management training/instruction program within the previous calendar year. (Please see listing of award categories.) PMI-offered programs or acts performed by PMI contractors and/or consultants, directly or indirectly, are not eligible. Currently employed PMI staff members are not eligible. Registered Education Providers (R.E.P.) are eligible for this award. |
| Who Can Nominate: |
Any PMI member, Project Management Professional (PMP®) credential holder or participant in a PMI recognized program (e.g. R.E.P., corporate council) may nominate a candidate. Nominators must have personal knowledge of the program(s) offered by the professional development provider. Self-nomination is allowed. | |
The PMI® Professional Development Provider of the Year Award recognizes exceptional skills in the delivery and implementation of a professional development program in project management.

Award Categories
PMI Component Provider: Any chartered PMI component in good standing, such as PMI chapter, specific interest group (SIG) or college
Corporate/Government/ Association Provider: In-house training department that delivers appropriate professional development programs focused on project management to their own employees and/or members
Individual/Business Provider: Sole proprietors and organizations that charge a fee for the delivery of project management professional development, including for-profit training and development consultants and businesses
Academic Provider: Academic organizations that charge a fee for Project Management Professional (PMP®) development training that is separate from their formal degree granting education curriculum
Criteria
PMI seeks nominees that have demonstrated a significant positive impact on trainees or students and have met the following criteria:
- • Selection and implementation of instructional and related professional development materials that reflect the current state of professional practice
- • Professional development framework that consists of a structured program development and delivery process that encourages student learning
- • Utilization of post-activity evaluation to improve program content
- • Utilization of a structured needs assessment to determine specific learning requirements
- • Displays a commitment to quality delivery of professional development for project management
Nominations
If more than one person nominates an individual, a lead nominator must be assigned to assemble and submit five copies of the nomination package via postal mail to PMI. Incomplete nominations will not be reviewed. Pages within the nomination or supporting documentation that exceed the stated page counts will not be evaluated.
Nomination packages must include:
- • A cover letter that identifies all materials and documentation contained in the nomination package.
- • An original document, no more than five pages long, outlining the nomination with attached supporting documentation, limited to 10 pages, which may be photocopies of originals. Submittals must be in English.
The original document must include:
- • The category for which the nomination is being considered
- • How each of the criteria were met or exceeded
- • How the professional development provider demonstrated a significant positive impact on its trainees/students
The supporting documents must include:
- • Documentation providing evidence of the results of structured needs assessment
- • Documentation supporting summary information from post-activity evaluations
- • Documentation summarizing the quality performance of the provider (i.e., letters of recommendation, testimonials)
There can be no restrictions on the use of submitted information after the final date of submission. All copyrighted materials included in the packet that require permission and protection shall be obtained by the nominator(s). Any material submitted will be kept strictly confidential and will only be used for the intended purpose of reviewing for the award.
The Professional Awards Member Advisory Group (MAGs) may award lead nominators up to two Professional Development Units (PDUs) for submitting nominations for a professional award.
PMI will use PMI.org to call for nominations from the membership and will solicit nominations from the PMI elected membership.
Selection Process
The PMI Public Relations Manager will verify the nomination and eligibility, and distribute the nomination package to the designated panel of reviewers for action.
The Public Relations Manager and the Accreditation Programs Manager, in conjunction with the PMI R.E.P. Member Advisory Group, will jointly organize a review panel consisting of subject matter experts within the PMI membership.
Each entry is evaluated and ranked only against other nominees under the same award category. PMI reserves the right not to select a recipient for a particular year for any category or all categories if the review performed indicates that nominations do not meet the stated criteria.
