Newtown Square, Pa. and Hyderabad, India, 16 November 2009 — Upendra Giri, PMP, was awarded the Project Management Institute (PMI) Eric Jenett Project Management Excellence Award for his outstanding contributions to the practice of the project management profession and has demonstrated leadership and initiative while advancing project management concepts, techniques, practices, or theories.
Giri, founder and CEO of AstroWix Corporation and founding president of the PMI North India Chapter, was instrumental in guiding Indian telecom giant Bharti Airtel to set up a project management office. He not only set up and customized the project management technology, but also cultivated a culture of project management in the company, significantly transforming the approach to projects among employees.
“Upendra’s contributions toward creating awareness of project management in India have been widely recognized. He has helped lay the foundation of project management in India and has been a symbol for progress in the profession,” said Raj Kalady, managing director of PMI India. “He is a true visionary and an exceptional leader who deserves recognition for his support of and contributions to the project management community.”
The PMI Eric Jenett Project Management Excellence Award will be presented on 13 November at the Project Management Conference in Hyderabad, India.
