ATLANTA, GEORGIA, USA – Project Management Institute (PMI®), the world’s leading membership association for the project management profession, has awarded Eric S. Norman of Atlanta with the Linn Stuckenbruck Person of the Year Award. PMI’s Person the Year Award recognizes an individual who has made a significant contribution to the profession as a leader in project management during the previous year.
Norman was recognized for his efforts and contributions to develop and advance the project management profession and to support PMI. During 2003 - 2006, he served as a volunteer PMI Project Manager leading the development of the Practice Standard for Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) – Second Edition. WBS provides a bridge between project estimation and planning, and it is used to substantiate that project management delivers business results. He also completed the Project Management Leadership Institute in 2006.
Norman has spent the past 25 plus years specializing in the process of project management. He has led projects and provided consulting for AT&T, Sprint, Delta Air Lines, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Norfolk Southern and CSX Railroads. He holds the Project Management Professional (PMP®) and Program Management Professional (PgMPSM) credentials from PMI.
A native of Washington, D. C., Norman is a graduate of the George Washington University School of Business and Hartt College of Music. He is vice president and chief project officer for Atlanta-based ChoicePoint, Inc., where he is responsible for design, development and implementation of project and program management processes across ChoicePoint business units. He also owns Brighton Consulting.
In 1999, Norman established the mentoring program for PMI’s Information Technology and Telecommunication Specific Interest Group (ITT SIG) and additionally served as chair for the nationally-recognized Mentoring Program of the Atlanta PMI Chapter. In 2000, Norman founded the Atlanta Chapter of the Microsoft Project Association (MPA) and led the organization as chair through 2003. He has published numerous articles for The Project Network and PMI Today newsletters and regularly contributes to a variety of trade publications.
Linn Stuckenbruck, for whom the PMI Person of the Year Award is named, was secretary of the PMI Board of Directors during the early years of PMI. He was presented the PMI Distinguished Contribution Award in 1980 and was named a PMI Fellow in 1986.
The Linn Stuckenbruck Person of the Year Award was presented on 6 October 2007 during the 2007 Awards Ceremony held in conjunction with the PMI Global Congress—North America in Atlanta.
