To earn your PMI Risk Management Professional (PMI-RMP)^® credential, you need to meet the experience and education requirements, and pass the PMI-RMP^® examination, a 170-question, multiple-choice test.

Regardless of how advanced your project risk management experience or education might be, you should still prepare vigorously for the exam. Successful PMI-RMP candidates typically use multiple study aids— including courses, self-study and study groups — and will spend many hours to prepare, so make sure you leave yourself plenty of preparation time before you take the exam.

• Review the PMI-RMP credential handbook.
• Review the PMI-RMP Examination Specification.
• Enroll in a formal study course offered by PMI chapters or accredited Registered Education Providers (R.E.P.s). You can also review self-study books published by R.E.P.s and other reputable training organizations.
• Form a study group with colleagues or friends; you can meet in person or virtually.
• Review the Practice Standard for Risk Management.
• Read current titles in project management. A good source of current titles used in PMI-RMP examination development is PMI eReads & Reference, a PMI member benefit that provides full online access to complete, unabridged project management books.
• Review the latest edition of A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK^® Guide).
