Professional Awards MAG



Description:
Deliverable(s) - Function as a Professional Subject Matter Expert (SME) on matters pertaining to the administration of the awards program
- Develop and/or refine awards, per strategic direction set by the Institute’s Strategic Plan, Standards and Branding
- Make recommendations for selection of award judging and review panels
- Create and manage subcommittees as needed to address ongoing operations.  Virtual resources will be preferred to carry out assignments and work of approved MAG committees.
- Continuously assess the elements of the Professional Awards Program to encourage participation by working with Component Leaders and other PMI channels and communities so awards may gain more global recognition and the number of nominations increase for all awards
- Affirm and acknowledge the third party review of Professional Awards nominations.  Ensure that all reviews and recommendations to bestow awards meet established criteria and stated processes of the individual awards

Volunteer job description As a Professional Awards Member Advisory Group team member, you will provide advice and expertise to PMI with respect to enhancing and evolving the Professional Awards program as well as reviewing professional award applications for the purpose of selecting award winners.
Volunteer start and end dates There are multiple terms available.  Each term is for one year, January – December 2010.

Qualifications & Skill set(s) required • Strong understanding of PMI’s goals, principles and strategic direction.
• PMP preferred
• Previous experience as a member of a virtual team.
• Familiarity with Professional Awards Program and the PMI Project of the Year competition a plus
• Understanding and appreciation for helping the Institute honor those who make outstanding contributions to the association and the project management profession
• Previous experience working in a multi-cultural environment a definite asset
• Strong analytical skills
• Excellent communication skills
• Agrees to abide by MAG charter, consistent with PMI Bylaws, applicable Institute policies, PMI’s confidentiality agreement and conflict of interest questionnaire. (For further information, please refer to PMI's website, www.pmi.org)
Other requirements 
• Spend a minimum of two to four hours a month on two conference calls
• Have access to the internet and be available via e-mail on a regular basis.
• 5-10 hours a month (peak-May, June).
• Spend adequate time to review award submissions and provide timely responses for all award categories.
Estimated Time Commitment • A minimum of four hours a month on one to two conference calls
• 5-10 hours a month (peak – May, June; August, September)
• May be asked to attend one face to face meeting, scheduled in advance to take place over a three day period (Friday – Sunday)

Intended volunteer benefits Volunteers receive PDUs under Category 5 for Volunteers (Minimum six months of participation- Five PDUs per calendar year.).

Culture of assignment The primary work performed by MAG volunteers will be conducted virtually.  There will be one face to face meeting each year. Meeting will occur on weekend days:  Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Alignment to PMI Strategy Provide advice and expertise to the PMI Professional Awards Program in alignment with the strategic objectives established by the PMI Board of Directors and operational objectives established by PMI Executive Management.  Professional Awards honor contributions and significant achievement made to PMI and the project management profession.

Department Requirement Applicant may not be part of other PMI, PMI Chapter or professional project management awards programs.  In addition, members who are selected to serve may not participate in the professional awards program though nominations or evaluations processes.
