| Social Networking for Social Good |
|
The PMI Educational Foundation (PMIEF) has taken its mission of promoting project management for educational and humanitarian purposes to social networking sites. This interactive experience is a way to find out about the latest programs and initiatives as well as interact with like-minded people who believe in using project management to benefit society. The PMIEF social networking sites were built for project management practitioners, teachers, humanitarian workers, other industry professionals, supporters of the cause, and those who would like to learn more. The Facebook page and LinkedIn group are hubs for discussion where everyone is encouraged to contribute their thoughts. Following PMIEF on Twitter allows you to stay up to date on the latest news, communicate with PMIEF staff members directly, and connect with members of the communities served by project management. Sharing PMIEF materials with your family, friends, and colleagues is made easy via social networks. Videos on Youtube, photos on Flickr, and presentations on Slideshare show the visual impact of project management in the classroom and in the field of disaster relief and recovery. These items can be shared as links as well as embedded on your website or blog. You can visit PMIEF at: Facebook | LinkedIn | Twitter | Youtube | SlideShare | Flickr For more information about PMIEF programs and how you can help via volunteer opportunities and financial support, go to PMIEF.org |

PMIEF.org is a resource containing educational products that break down project management as a career option for students, a life skill for all ages, and a tool to be used by disaster relief and recovery personnel. Careers in Project Management can be used by high school/secondary school students and career guidance counselors. It explains the basics of project management and outlines related career options. Project Management Skills for Life is a guide that shows how project management is not only for businesses and can be helpful to people in their everyday lives. Whether you are planning a vacation or a school function, project management skills can help you improve your effectiveness and efficiency. The PMI Project Management Methodology for Post Disaster Reconstruction applies project management principles to disaster relief and recovery. This methodology can be used by relief agencies, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and governments in the wake of a major disaster. For more information about these learning tools and other resources, please go to the Learning Zone section of PMIEF.org. |

A group of children at a juvenile detention center discovered project management as a career option thanks to Michiko Diby, PMP (on the right) of Sealight, LLC. Ms. Diby described the experience as "one of the most enjoyable days of my year." She broke down the basics of project management, and her message to the kids was: "You already have basic project management skills."
