Asia Pacific Regional Events - FAQs
We anticipate that once the announcement is made, that many questions will arise that will need strong, consistent messaging. Here are some of the questions that we anticipate with the answers we will provide:
1. Will PMI be planning a congress in 2011 for Asia Pacific? Where?
a. No. We will be supporting several regional events instead.
2. Are you cancelling all congresses in Asia Pacific?
a. For now we are supporting the regional events. A PMI congress for the region may be re-visited in the future to support the needs of stakeholders.
3. Are you using the same criteria for re-examining PMI events in other regions?
a. Yes. We have received positive feedback from the implementation of this type of regional event support strategy in Latin America for 2009 and 2010. Therefore, if another region would be better supported with this type of support, PMI will consider it.
4. Will you cancel congresses in other regions using this same strategy?
a. Right now there are no plans to implement the regional events strategy in regions outside of Asia Pacific and Latin America.
5. Are you cancelling the congress because of the economic downturn?
a. No.
6. How is this approach better?
a. This approach provides an opportunity for PMI to support more events in a region that have already demonstrated their popularity and success in meeting regional stakeholder needs. PMI wants to support these efforts.
7. What will be your investment in the region?
a. Each event will be supported according to the PMI Guide and Policy Document for Supported Chapters which outlines 4 levels of support ranging from PMI Executive participation, translation and marketing support to sponsoring & exhibits.
8. What will be the selection criteria for places to which you support an event?
a. Only pre-existing events will be considered. The criteria that is being evaluated includes chapter involvement and/or sponsorship, regional representation, and the ability to best meet PMI practitioner needs in each region. To be considered for future support, please contact your regional mentor.
9. Will PMI be hosting a LIM meeting in Asia Pacific in 2011?
a. Due to the devastating situation in Japan following the natural disasters there, and after careful consideration, PMI has made the difficult decision to cancel the 2011 Asia-Pacific (AP) Leadership Institute Meeting (LIM) that was scheduled for July 14-15, 2011 in Tokyo, Japan and was to be held in conjunction with the Japan Forum. PMI will continue to provide support to the Japan Forum but in lieu of the AP LIM, PMI will redirect support to the Asia Pacific Region Meetings.
