Criteria

Nominated products must have demonstrated a significant positive impact on trainees and/or students and have met the following criteria:

  • • The product transformed one or more knowledge areas of A Guide to the Project Management of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide) into skills that could be readily applied in a specified work environment
  • • The product is highlighted by the unique and/or creative use of project management tools or techniques in the classroom or media, which enhanced the effectiveness of training the targeted student group

An assessment that demonstrated the product’s cost effectiveness, the assessment method is described, and the assessment results are provided using one or more quantitative methods.

Nominations

When more than one person is making the nomination, a lead nominator must be designated to be responsible for assembling all supporting documentation and submitting the nomination package by postal mail.

Nomination packets must consist of an original document — of no more than five pages — that outlines the nomination with attached supporting documentation, limited to 10 pages, which may be photocopies of originals. Submittals must be in English.

The packet must contain three copies of a cover letter that identifies all materials and documentation contained in the nomination. The letter must include:

  • • The category for which the nomination is being considered
  • • Identification of the instructional material or product developed
  • • How each of the criteria were met or exceeded
  • • How the course/material favorably impacted the organization’s students in addition to their organization

Supporting documents must include five copies of the product or subject material for panel review. There can be no restrictions on the use of submitted information after the final date of submission. All copyrighted materials included in the packet that require permission and protection will be obtained by the nominator(s). The submitted product or subject material will be kept strictly confidential and will only be used for the intended purpose of reviewing for this award.

Incomplete nominations will not be reviewed. Pages within the nomination or supporting documentation that exceed the stated page counts will not be evaluated.

The Professional Awards Member Advisory Group (MAG) may award lead nominators up to two Professional Development Units (PDUs) for submitting nominations for a professional award.

PMI will use PMI.org to call for nominations from the membership and will solicit nominations from the PMI elected membership.

Selection Process

The PMI Public Relations Manager will verify the nomination and eligibility, and distribute the nomination package to the designated panel of reviewers for action.

The Public Relations Manager, along with the PMI Accreditation Programs Manager and the PMI R.E.P. Member Advisory Group, will jointly select a review panel consisting of subject matter expects from within the PMI membership.

Each nominated entry is evaluated and then ranked only against other nominees under the same award category. Only one PMI Professional Development Product of the Year Award will be given in each of the defined award categories. PMI reserves the right not to select a recipient for a particular year for any category or all categories if the review performed indicates that nominations do not meet the stated criteria.
