| Who Should Participate: |
Anyone who, through project management research, has made a significant contribution to the advancement of project management body of knowledge, including but not limited to innovative tools, techniques and concepts that further the practice of project management is eligible. Nominees do not have to be PMI members, and may work in any field. PMI staff members and contractors and/or consultants under contract with PMI, directly or indirectly, are not eligible.

Purpose
To recognize and honor an individual(s) who has significantly advanced the concepts, knowledge and/or practices of project management through professionally conducted and authored project management research.
Eligibility
Any individual(s) who, through project management research, has made a significant contribution to the advancement of the field of Project Management. The nominee may or may not be a PMI member. The nominee(s) may work in any field, such as business, government, nonprofie, academia, research, consulting, training, etc. Currently employed PMI staff are not eligible for a PMI professional award.
Criteria
The individual(s) must have carried out research that has contributed to the advancement of the field of Project Management, and is consistent with the definition adopted by the PMI Research Program.
Project management research involves scholarly or scientific investigations or inquires and is based upon data (either primary or secondary) from which general conclusions can be drawn. Both the data and the conclusions are focused on either the project management context or the management activities needed to complete a project successfully, but not on the technical activities of a project.
Research can include both theory and practice in the field of project/ program management, which may include:
- • Summaries and critical analyses of research results
- • Surveys of current practices
- • Critical analyses of concepts, theories or practices
- • Development of concepts, theories or practices
- • Analyses of successes and failures
- • Comparisons and/or analyses of case studies
The research must have an enduring or practical value.

Nomination Procedures
A person must be nominated by at least one (1) or more individuals, one of whom must be a current PMI member in good standing. When there is more than one person making the nomination, a Lead Nominator, who is a PMI member, must be assigned to be responsible for assembling all supporting documentation and submitting the nomination package by postal mail to the PMI Public Relations Specialist, Public Relations, 14 Campus Boulevard, Newtown Square, PA 19073, USA. Other supporting nominators do not have to be members of PMI. All nominated letters shall be original documents signed by the writer. Electronic letters are not acceptable. Submittals shall be in English.
The nomination must identify the body of research on which it is based and must document personal knowledge of the value of the accomplishments of the researcher(s) toward advancing the field of Project Management in the(ir) nominating letter. Any direct personal or professional relationship with the nominated individual(s) must be stated also.
The nomination packet must contain five (5) copies of the curriculum vitae with complete list of publications. It is not necessary to submit hard copies of each publication. Incomplete nominations received at PMI Global Operations Center will not be reviewed.
The Professional Awards MAG (Member Advisory Group) may award up to two PDUs (professional development units) for submitting nominations for a professional award.
PMI will use www.pmi.org as the vehicle to Call for Nominations from the membership at large. PMI Global Operations Center will also solicit nominations form PMI's elected leadership.
Selection
The Manager, Public Relations will verify the nomination and eligibility, and distribute the nomination package to the designated panel of reviewers for action.
The Manager, Public Relations and Manager, Research in conjunction with the PMI Research Program Member Advisory Group shall organize a review panel consisting of subject matter experts from within the PMI membership. PMI reserves the right not to select a recipient for a particular year if the review performed indicates that nominations do not meet the stated criteria. Only one award will be given in any given year.
Presentation
PMI Research Achievement Award will be presented at a specified PMI event.
