PMI Community POST

International Project Management Day is coming up on 2 November. Plan now to participate.

Project team members and organizations across the globe will celebrate the second International Project Management (IPM) Day on 2 November. IPM Day recognizes the contributions of project managers and project teams. It is an opportunity to highlight how project management contributes to strategic objectives, organizational performance and business results.

IPM Day founder Frank P. Saladis, PMP, encourages wide participation. He said, “The value of project management begins with the project manager! Take time to thank those who work so diligently to achieve the objectives of your organization.

On IPM Day last year, formal and informal events took place in New York City and across the globe that were inspired and organized by volunteers. PMI chapters from Russia, Europe and North America presented radio programs, conferences, receptions and Webinars to discuss and celebrate the project management profession and its accomplished practitioners. (The 11 November 2005 issue of PMI Community Post recapped the day.)

Several PMI chapters have plans in development for this year's event. The International Institute for Learning Inc., an IPM Day sponsor, is planning a 3-1/2 hour Webinar with several guest speakers. If you would like to participate in IPM Day 2006, suggestions include the following:

  • Host an internal meeting and conduct a presentation on the value of project management
  • Hold a reception, coffee break or lunch to honor and thank project teams
  • Encourage local government officials to issue a proclamation about IPM Day or to publicly recognize project managers’ contributions
  • Coordinate with professional associations to co-host IPM Day events
  • Add recognition for project managers to the agenda of a pre-scheduled event
  • Take a project team member out to lunch and say, “Thanks for the work you do!”
