Asia Pacific Research Conference on Project Management Call for Papers

Academic researchers and educators are invited to submit paper proposals for the Asia Pacific Research Conference on Project Management (APPMR 2010) , to be held in Melbourne, Australia, 25-26 February 2010. The conference theme is "The Project as a Social System."

In recent years research in project management has accelerated. It has touched a myriad of disciplinary fields and projects ranging from construction to organizational change to new product development as well as non-traditional areas such as medicine and law.

This suggests that project management as a field of study could make significant contributions to scholarly knowledge beyond project management. This shift in research focus indicates a notable divergence from a traditional concern with the technical processes of projects. Many researchers and authors identify projects as primarily social constructs where sense-making and adaptive behaviours prevail to accommodate local contexts, dynamics and personal attributes. This suggests that projects can be considered as social systems, which encompass a broad range of phenomena including knowledge practices, learning, power and politics, leadership, organisational behaviour, quality of work-life, conflict resolution, and competency development.

The conference theme frames project management as a method of organizing work and the issues associated with project work in an organizational context. Research contributions that explore such phenomena are encouraged.
