CAPM® Credential Holders Begin Their First Renewal Cycle The first class of PMI Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM®) credential holders is coming up for renewal. The CAPM credential acknowledges the professional dedication of project team members who contribute to project teams from many different perspectives. CAPM credential holders maintain their credential by studying the updates to A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide) that have occurred over the last five years. This assures their employers that they have stayed current in their knowledge of project management. The certification cycle for the CAPM credential is five years. During the fifth year of the cycle, the CAPM credential holder moves into a renewal period of one year in which he or she must re-take and pass the examination before their CAPM credential expires. The steps required to maintain their credential include:
The renewal process is streamlined because renewal applicants will not have to re-enter eligibility information from their initial credential application. If an individual’s CAPM credential expires, he or she will lose the credential number and may not use the CAPM designation on business cards, resumes, or other documents. To renew the credential at this point, a candidate will have to submit a new application, which will go through PMI’s review process and is subject to PMI’s audit process. The candidate will then have to sit for and pass the examination. Please note that Professional Development Units (PDUs) are not required to maintain the CAPM credential. Please contact PMI Customer Care with any questions or concerns about CAPM renewal. |
