PMI® Research Conference to Focus on the Value of Project Management

Want to share and discuss the latest project management research findings? If so, the place to go is the 2008 PMI® Research Conference, 13–16 July at the Warsaw Marriott in Warsaw, Poland.

The research conference, which takes place every two years in a different locale, is a special opportunity for researchers, students, educators and practitioners to share and discuss new project management findings.

The theme of the 2008 conference is Defining the Future of Project Management. During the event, PMI will reveal results of a significant study of the value of project management to individuals, governments and business.

The conference will feature seven plenary presentations and 51 proffered papers. The papers have been selected by a double-blind peer review process facilitated by experts from the global project management research community. Daily student poster sessions will also add to the lively atmosphere of this anticipated event.

Conference attendees will have access to the most definitive research study ever commissioned to validate the value of implementing project management at organizations.

More than three years of collaborative research within the project management community went into the study, at a cost of more than US$2 million. More than 30 academics and analytical experts were involved as team leaders, and more than 60 case studies from a wide array of industries and geographies were made.

The study will provide reliable and credible guidelines to organizations to evaluate return on investment for their project management implementation and statistical benchmarks for organizational comparisons.

The findings will be presented by lead investigators Janice L. Thomas, PhD, Athabasca University, and Mark Mullaly, PMP, Interthink Consulting, Inc.

Educational tracks at the conference will include:

  • Theoretical foundations of project management
  • Soft skills and lessons learned in project management
  • Disaster and emergency response
  • Methodologies and processes in project management
  • Leadership in project management
  • Governance of projects
  • Organizational project management
  • Value of project management
  • Virtual project management

A ceremony at the proceedings will include the Project Management Journal® Paper of the Year Award and the PMI Research Achievement Award.
