Special Report from the PMI Research Conference PMI presented several awards at the 2008 PMI Research Conference held in Warsaw, Poland earlier this month.
The PMI Research Achievement Award was presented to Dragan Z. Milosevic, PhD, PMP, of Portland, Oregon, USA. This award honors an individual who has significantly advanced the concepts, knowledge and practice of project management through professionally conducted and authored project management research. Dr. Milosevic is recognized for his scholarly work that has helped establish new direction and made significant and sustained contributions to the theory and practice of project management. His impressive record of eight books, six chapters in professional reference books and over 45 research papers published in world-class journals and conference proceedings demonstrate scholarly excellence and contribution to project management research. Dr. Milosevic’s research has particular emphasis on standardization of project management, cross cultural effectiveness, and the alignment of project management with business strategy. These contributions are widely cited and used in research and teaching. In 2004, he received PMI’s David I. Cleland Literature Award for his book Project Management Toolbox. In 1988, he was recognized with a Fulbright Senior Scholar Award. He was named three times as the Best Teacher of the Year at Portland State University. Dr. Milosevic is professor of engineering and technology management at Portland State University in Oregon, USA. Prior to the start of his teaching career in 1993, he held management and leadership positions with firms in industry, including posts of engineer, project manager, marketing manager and executive vice president for projects.
The Project Management Journal Paper of the Year Award recognizes a paper that has made a significant contribution to project management knowledge and practice. Blaize Horner Reich, PhD, of Vancouver, Canada, received this honor for her scholarly paper, Managing Knowledge and Learning in IT Projects: A Conceptual Framework and Guidelines. The paper appeared in the June 2007 issue of Project Management Journal®. Dr. Reich is a professor in the business school at Simon Fraser University, Vancouver, Canada. Earlier at Simon Fraser University, she was associate dean, Graduate Programs from 2000 to 2003. She also has been a visiting associate professor at Templeton College, Oxford University in the United Kingdom. She and colleagues launched PMPerspectives.org, which is a research-based, interactive website for project managers. Dr. Reich’s research has been published in a wide range of journals, including MIS Quarterly, Journal of Management Information Systems and International Journal of Project Management. She has many years of experience in the IT industry as a practitioner, project manager and consultant focused on the financial services and utilities sectors. She is currently an editorial board member for several academic journals and a corporate director. Her current IT project-related research focuses on knowledge and learning, modeling risk and project performance, and the evolving role of project managers. PMI congratulates the award recipients! |
