The First Project Management Degree Program in Information Systems Security Accredited by PMI Global Accreditation Center (GAC)

The PMI Global Accreditation Center for Project Management (PMI GAC) recently accredited the graduate program in project management at the University of Houston (UH) in Houston, Texas, USA.

Newly accredited degree programs at the UH’s College of Technology include Master of Science in Technology Project Management, Master of Science in Technology Project Management - Information Systems Security and Master of Science in Technology Project Management - Logistics.

The information security degree is the first of its kind accredited by PMI GAC.

Established by the PMI Board of Directors in 2001, the Global Accreditation Center for Project Management (GAC) is a specialized accrediting body that assures the quality of project management degree programs at the graduate and undergraduate levels. Fifty-nine project management degree programs at 24 institutions in nine countries are accredited by PMI GAC. Eight other programs are in the process of accreditation.

Accreditation by PMI GAC ensures the quality of academic degree programs and their graduates, and shows the university’s commitment to excellence in project management education.

The University of Houston is home to more than 36.000 students and 40 research centers and institutes, and sponsors more than 300 partnerships with corporate, civic and governmental entities. 

 

The PMI Agile Community of Practice Launches to the PMI Members

This week, the PMI Agile Community of Practice (CoP) launched to the PMI membership. To celebrate the launch, the PMI Agile community is planning a kick-off event at the upcoming Agile 2009 Conference in Chicago, Illinois, USA, on 22-24 August.

This group of PMI Agilists is sending speakers to present, hand out information materials and facilitate networking.

This community of practice is PMI's first newly formed community in recent years, and is dedicated to raising awareness of Agile practices and techniques among PMI's members.

“Our mission is to use Agile Project Management to change the face of business as we know it,” says Jesse Fewell, Community Manager for the Agile CoP.

The PMI Agile community is focusing on building an emerging knowledge base using wikis, blogs and discussion threads.  Additional resources include articles, tools and techniques, links to Agile project management literature and more.

Current PMI members can join the PMI Agile CoP at no fee.
