The Past, Present and Future of Project Management: Topics of Discussion at PMI® Global Congress 2009—North America

What was project management like in 1969 when PMI was founded and how has it evolved in 40 years? How is sustainability affecting the way that projects are managed today? What will organizations do to keep up with the speed of change? How is the role of the project manager changing, and will that affect the basic tenets of the profession?
These questions and more will be explored at PMI Global Congress 2009—North America, 10-13 October 2009 in Orlando, Florida, USA.
This year’s congress features an exciting array of dynamic speakers and panelists who will offer thought-provoking insights and lead discussions on leadership, innovation, change and adaptation:
- The PMI Founders panel will be the highlight of Sunday morning breakfast at 9:00 am, as the founders of the Institute will share their stories and reflect on the 40-year history of PMI and the changes they have seen in the profession.
- The opening general session features keynote speaker T. Boone Pickens, who will deliver a comprehensive solution for North America’s dependence on foreign oil, and answer audience questions on the topic.
- Monday morning’s breakfast panel offers a discussion on global sustainability and the role of project professionals, specifically their experiences with ethical supply chains and suppliers. Panelists are Ellen Jackowski of HP, Anne Larilahti of Nokia Siemens Networks and Sandra Taylor, formerly of Starbucks.
- Wake up on Tuesday morning with coffee, pastry and the entertaining and innovative ideas of Frederik Härén. Mr. Härén, who delivered the keynote at PMI® Global Congress 2009—Asia Pacific, has wowed PMI audiences before with his fresh thinking on adaptation in a rapidly changing world.
- Before you say goodbye to Orlando and your new colleagues, listen to theories on the new breed of project manager with renowned author and speaker Dr. Harold Kerzner.
