Software Extension to the PMBOK® Guide Core Committee Volunteers, Agile experts

PMI Standards is now accepting applications for limited number of Core Committee Volunteers and one leadership position for the Software Extension to the PMBOK® Guide. The development of this Extension will be a joint project together with the IEEE Computer Society. As such the Core Committee will be composed of volunteers from both PMI and IEEE CS, and is responsible for the development and delivery of the Extension in compliance with both the PMI standards process and the IEEE CS standards process.
The purpose of the Software Extension to the PMBOK® Guide is to provide guidance to software developers and their managers related to project management of software development projects, and the use of iterative project management methodologies (including Agile) in conjunction with the PMBOK® Guide.
This development initiative requires an extended commitment in time and effort from Core Committee members for the development of the standard through the adjudication of key recommendations for changes and updates to the standard. Involvement may require participation on weekdays, evenings, and weekends. Time commitments vary from several hours per week to a few hours per month. The development timeline may require bursts of heavy involvement or periods of little to no involvement.

Required Experience
- Hands-on experience with software development, methodologies, and practices
- Experience in managing a software development project and leading a software development team
- Experience with the PMI standards development process (preferred)

Logistics
- Must be able to travel a minimum of two to four times per year for three-day working weekends to attend team meetings, including the first Core Committee kickoff meeting to be held approximately 45-60 days after the close of applications
- Must be available for regularly scheduled teleconference meetings
- Must have consistent/reliable access to telephone, email and the internet
- Volunteers must complete, sign and return to PMI the committee member on-boarding documents including an assignment of copyright and conflict of interest before beginning their participation.
Accountability
- Volunteer members will report to the committee chair who in turn reports to PMI’s Standards Program leadership team.
Applications for membership on the Core Committee must be submitted to karl.best@pmi.org by 17 June 2011. Please state your willingness and ability to serve on this committee, and attach your resume (MSWord format preferred) demonstrating your meeting the above qualifications.
If you are selected as a Core Committee member you will be contacted by PMI by approximately 1 July to confirm your role on the committee, and notified of the date/location of the committee kickoff meeting, which will be held approximately 30-45 days later.
If you are not selected as a member of the Core Committee you may be eligible to serve as a technical contributor or reviewer.
