Avoid End-of-Year PDU Crunch
Remember the December dash to find activities that would afford you enough professional development units (PDUs) to maintain your Project Management Professional (PMP®) credential?
Since your credential expiration date was moved from 31 December to the anniversary date of when you earned the PMP credential, you do not have to worry about this anymore.
However, you still need to accrue and report 60 PDUs per three-year certification cycle. Here are some suggestions of professional development activities that extend beyond geography and budget. Review the CCR Handbook for all PDU categories and maximum limits.
- Everyday Job Activities. Professional project management experience (Category 2H) can award 5 PDUs per year for a possible total of 15 PDUs per three-year cycle.
- Reading Relevant Material and Interviews with Subject Matter Experts. Self-directed learning (Category 2 SDL) can award up to 15 PDUs per cycle for activities such as reading books on the project management topic of your choice.
- Courses, Seminars and Web-based Training. Project management training (Categories 3 and 4) can award unlimited PDUs.
Also, Mark Your Calendar for PMI Global Congress 2009—Asia Pacific, 9-11 February 2009 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, that features three days of learning sessions that equal PDUs.
Finally, seasoned PMP credential holders know to look beyond the events calendar and PDU opportunity listing to find professional development activities. Whether it is a chapter meeting or a visiting speaker at your job, you have an advantage on acquiring PDUs when you start with a plan and keep your search broad. Review the CCR Handbook for all PDU categories and maximum limits.
New Ethics Section on PMI.org Offers Tools and Resources
PMI credential holders and members agree to uphold PMI’s Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct. A new section on PMI.org that is dedicated to the topic of ethics provides links to the tools and resources to help you use your best ethical judgment when situations arise.
PMI believes in the importance of ethical behavior in the field of project management because practitioners are faced with ethical dilemmas throughout their career, now more than ever. How to act when faced with an ethical dilemma may not always be clear.
The new ethics section includes:
- A link to the PMI Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct
- Procedures for filing an ethical complaint about a breach to the Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct
- A link to Marketplace where practitioners can find books, papers, articles and more on the topic of ethics
Continuous updates to the site will include quarterly presentations for PMI communities, videos, links to other ethics websites and resources outside of PMI and translations of the PMI Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct. Visit the ethics section of PMI.org now!
