A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide) has long been the cornerstone of the project management profession. It is unique because it not only presents the core concepts and practices that are the foundation of project management, but also evolves to reflect its ever-changing business landscape.
Through a team of dedicated volunteers, PMI has begun the process of updating the PMBOK® Guide, with plans to release its Sixth Edition in English and 10 additional languages in the third quarter 2017.
The PMBOK® Guide – Sixth Edition will feature several significant content enhancements. Most notably, this edition will include expanded coverage of agile. This expanded coverage reflects evidence from Pulse of the Profession® research that agile practices are used by increasing numbers of organizations in the management of some or all of their projects. It is also in response to numerous requests from our stakeholders.
By including this information, PMI will align proven, foundational project management concepts with the evolving state of the profession today.
Significant detail on agile will be included in sections of the PMBOK® Guide – Sixth Edition as well as in an appendix. As a companion to the PMBOK® Guide, we also plan to publish a practice guide focused on agile, tentatively set for release in the third quarter of 2017.
New in the sixth edition, each section (or knowledge area) of the guide will have three introductory sections.
Other content enhancements include:
