PMI officially launched the PMI-Scheduling Professional
(PMI-SP)SM credential at the Fifth Annual PMI College of Scheduling Conference in Chicago, Illinois, USA, in May. PMI and the PMI College of Scheduling partnered to develop the credential.
More than 250 project schedulers attended the conference and learned about PMI-SP, which acknowledges individuals who strengthen and support project teams by providing expertise in the specialized area of scheduling.
To be eligible for PMI-SP, candidates must have both knowledge of and experience in developing and maintaining the project schedule. They must meet educational and experience requirements and pass a multiple-choice exam to earn the credential. They need not hold any other PMI credential to apply.
The cost for the credential is US$520 for PMI members and US$670 for non-members. Candidates can sit for the computer-based exam at Prometric testing centers around the world. For more information, visit pmi.org/scheduling.

This Q&A Forum focuses on the PMP credential cycle date change initiative.
Q1. What is happening to my PMP expiration date?
Instead of expiring on 31 December, all PMP certifications will now expire on the third anniversary of the day and month that you earned your credential.
Q2. Does this change in my PMP expiration date shorten my PMP cycle?
No. This change includes a transition period that provides all PMPs with a partial year that extends beyond their current 3-year cycle. Thereafter, once they renew their credential, all PMPs will be on a standard 3-year cycle.
Q3. Why is the change being made?
The PMI Certification Program is continuously updated to align with ISO (International Organizations for Standardization). This expiration date change corresponds with best practices for a global certification program. The change also will simplify the renewal process to enable PMI to serve you more efficiently.
Q4. When will I know my new expiration date?
By late August 2008, you will be able to view your new expiration date on PMI.org when you log in as a user. You also will receive a series of communications from PMI over the next several months that provides information and guidance on your new expiration date.
- September 2008 – you will receive an e-mail with your new expiration date
- October 2008 – you will receive by postal mail a new PMP certificate printed with your new expiration date.
