FEATURES
PMP Holders May Qualify for PMI’s New Credential for Program Managers

Broader Horizons
For individuals whose duties and responsibilities include meeting an organizational objective through the coordination of multiple related projects, the Program Management Professional (PgMPSM) credential may be right for you.

Whereas the Project Management Professional (PMP®) credential acknowledges an individual’s ability to lead and direct project tasks, the PgMP credential recognizes professionals who manage an organizational objective through a group of projects and their shared resources.

The PMP credential is not a prerequisite for the PgMP credential, but you can achieve both and maintain them simultaneously.

Like the PMP credential, the PgMP credential has educational and work experience eligibility requirements. However, to attain PgMP certification, candidates must successfully progress through three assessments:

  1. An extensive application review
  2. A multiple-choice examination
  3. A multi-rater assessment.

Both the PMP and PgMP credentials demonstrate your knowledge of globally recognized terminology, strategies and standards; add value to your project teams and organizations; and provide you with distinction in the growing field of project management.

With the launch of the PgMP credential, program managers are recognized for the knowledge, skills and experience to make important decisions and to carry out strategies that enhance business results.

Q: How do I report my Professional Development Units (PDUs)?
A: PMP credential holders may submit their PDU claims in several ways:

  • Using the CCR Activity Reporting form in the back of the CCR Handbook via fax to +1-405-325-6925 (US)
  • Using the CCR Activity Reporting form via mail to:

PMI/CCR Records
College of Continuing Education
1700 Asp Avenue
Norman, OK 73072-6400 USA
NOTE: It is the PMP credential holder’s responsibility to maintain records and documentation to support a PDU claim.

Q: How do I verify that my Professional Development Unit (PDU) claim has been received by PMI?
A: PMI maintains a PDU transcript as part of your certification record. The certification record, which is accessible to you via the online Certification System, also contains your CCR cycle dates. Please note that it takes approximately three weeks for PDUs to post to your transcript. If you have difficulty accessing your certification record, contact our Customer Care Team at customercare@pmi.org.

Q: I reported all the necessary PDUs for my CCR cycle. Now what?
A: Once you reported your 60 PDUs, PMI will send you an e-mail letting you know that you may now complete the certification renewal process online and will instruct you on how to do so. At that time, you will be able to download a PDF of the Application for Certification Renewal if you decide not to renew online. PMI reserves the right to audit any application, during which you may be asked to submit supporting material to verify the PDUs you reported. Once you successfully complete the steps for credential renewal, you will be awarded your credential for another three-year cycle.

Q: As a Project Management Professional (PMP®) credential holder, can I apply for the Program Management Professional (PgMPSM) credential?
A: Yes. Although the PMP credential is not a prerequisite for the PgMP credential, you can achieve both credentials and maintain them simultaneously. By aligning your credential cycles, you only need to attain 60 PDUs for both credentials over the same three-year certification/CCR cycle.
