Jerry King's Bio
A transplant from Dyer, Tennessee, Jerry King led his personal life in the same exemplary way as he did his professional life. He was a widely known and beloved leader, friend, and family man. His loyalties to his Creator, Family, and Country defined his life, leading friends and colleagues to
recognize him as a man of generosity, integrity, patience, and perseverance.
Jerry was a man of many talents and wore many hats to help the Chapter succeed. He once served as the Director of Education, teaching PMP refresher courses. All instructors and students remember him as a knowledgeable professional who treated them with the utmost respect.
Under his presidency, PMI, San Diego Chapter, Inc. achieved status worthy of a world-renowned organization. Jerry’s leadership and vision were monumental in changing the public’s perception of the Chapter as a rag tag volunteer group to a professional association. Jerry gave control,
empowered others, built community, provided opportunity, and affirmed a genuine sense of achievement to those fortunate enough to work with him. His leadership inspired others to excellence. His leadership of the Chapter came at a critical time in its growth and the current success of the Chapter is largely due his initiatives. Jerry’s undying faith in the people around him enabled the Chapter to stay on track and membership grew from 25 to over 500 members. With the framework in place, PMI, San Diego Chapter, Inc. has over 1,200 members today.
Jerry King, passed away peacefully on December 27, 2004. He was 61. The Region 7 (Southwest North America, including California, Hawaii, New Mexico, Nevada, and Arizona) Jerry King Memorial Scholarship for Project Management Excellence is offered as a training and professional development scholarship to enable others to aspire to excellence.
