My
name is Sonali Davina Goonetilleke
and I am 23 years old. I am a recent graduate of the Architectural Science
Program at Ryerson University located in Toronto Ontario Canada.
My family and I immigrated to Canada from Sri-Lanka when I was 5
years old. One of my first interests, from as early as I can remember,
dealt with anything related to Art. I really enjoy painting in all mediums
and have continued to keep this as one of my hobbies. Naturally, throughout
my years in school I have always been interested in design and when
deciding which career field to purse in my post secondary studies, I
felt that the Architecture Program at Ryerson had a great deal to offer
me in that it gave me the option of choosing from the stream of Design,
Building Science or Project Management after my second year. After studying
design for my first 2 years I decided that Project Management was where
I found my niche. I enjoy working with others and feel that Construction
Project Management is the best combination of design, science, and management.
At present, I am an Assistant Project Manager for Govan Brown Construction
Managers, located in downtown Toronto and specialize in Commercial Interiors.
I love to learn and am constantly working to improve myself and the
environment around me. Designing the built environment holds a great
deal of responsibility and as a member of the construction industry
I would like to do my part in helping to build as consciously as possible.
Therefore, one of my short term goals is to study and eventually become
LEED certified. LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design)
is an initiative started by the US Green Building Council and sets a
sustainability standard for building/construction (base building and
interior). Even though this may be a small step, it would bring me a
great deal of satisfaction knowing that I am doing my part to help build
consciously for generations to come.
