Thais
Alves is currently pursuing her Ph.D. studies at the
University of California at Berkeley. She is enrolled in the
Engineering and Project Management Program in the Civil and
Environmental Engineering Department, and expects to graduate in the
2005-2006 academic year. Prior to coming to Berkeley, Ms Alves
studied at Brazilian universities and earned a B.S. in Civil
Engineering (UFRN/1997) and Master’s in Construction Management (UFRGS/2000).
Ms Alves has
been involved in research projects related to the reduction of waste
in construction projects, lean production planning applied to
construction, and construction supply chains. Ms Alves’ Ph.D.
research investigates the sheet metal ductwork supply chain and uses
process mapping and simulation modeling tools to represent the
interactions between the supply chain’s stakeholders and to aid in
project management decisions. Ms Alves’ research will contribute to
the identification of opportunities for improvement on project
management, buffering, and batching practices in the sheet metal
ductwork supply chain.
