Since 1978 Fred Arnold has been an active member and volunteer-leader in PMI. At the time of his Fellow Award in 1994, Mr. Arnold was believed to be the youngest PMI member to receive this honor. In the 20+ years since receiving this award, Mr. Arnold has continued to provide support to the Institute in several areas. He served as chair of the former Utility SIG, was a co-founder of the Pittsburgh Chapter’s PMO and IT Specific Interest Groups, initiated a project and served as the project manager for the PMI Educational Foundation/Pittsburgh Chapter’s 2004 Pro Bono Project Management Training initiative for the Pittsburgh Minority Business Council and was elected by the PMI global membership to serve for two consecutive terms (2005-2010) on the PMI Board of Directors. While on the Board, he was very active on the Performance Oversight Committee, and since then has remained active serving on the Board Volunteer Appointment Committee, Chair’s special projects, PMI Nominating Committee, evaluator for submissions for PMI Fellows Award, and has/is presently serving as an evaluator for the Chapter Innovation Program. Mr. Arnold earned a Project Management Professional (PMP)® certification after initially being elected to the Board of Directors. He has been a member of the PMI Educational Foundation Leadership Society since its inception. In his professional career, Mr. Arnold has transitioned his experience in owner’s independent oversight and management of consulting services from large engineering, procurement and construction energy projects to a wide range of chemical process, environmental remediation, medical equipment, pharmaceutical, finance, regulatory hearing/litigation, energy and manufacturing projects. After 26 years of professional growth, Mr. Arnold resigned from Vanadium Enterprises where he was a leader in its growth to over 2,200 employees (he was employee number 3 in 1973). Since 1999 he has been primarily focused on large IT projects, and since 2004 has been dedicated to U.S. federal government IT programs where he leads oversight of large ($2 billion) IT managed services support. Mr. Arnold is a co-founder of Le, Arnold & Associates in Virginia USA and serves as Vice President & COO.
