Karen R.J. White is a 25-year project management and software development veteran who was recently appointed degree chair at Marlboro College Graduate and Professional Studies. Ms. White is the chair for the MS in Management degree, with a focus on project management, and the chair for the Graduate Certificate in Project Management. She is also the chair for the MS in Management degree, with a focus on Healthcare Administration. Prior to these additional roles, Ms. White taught a number of graduate courses at the college, including Project Management for Non-Profits as well as Organizational Change Management. She is a member of the college’s Academic Oversight Committee. In addition to her activities at Marlboro College, Ms. White continues to help nonprofit organizations more effectively manage projects ranging from fundraising efforts to technology improvements, drawing on her years’ experience advising executive clients on the management of today's complex systems development environments and serving as a volunteer. Ms. White has been an active member of PMI since 1993. Her list of activities ranges from involvement at the local chapter level, where her efforts led to the chapter's improved stability. At the global level. as a member of the PMI Board of Directors, she was the catalyst behind the recognition that an update to PMI's ethics standards and associated processes was needed to reflect the increasingly global nature of the organization. She was recognized with the PMI Distinguished Contribution Award in 1997. As chair of the PMI Educational Foundation Board of Directors in 2008, Ms. White led the efforts to establish professional philanthropic management of the foundation. Ms. White continues to support PMI, currently functioning as the chair of the Ethics Appeals Committee. She is a member of the Mass Bay and New Hampshire chapters. Ms. White holds a Master of Science in Information Systems from Northeastern University's Graduate School of Engineering. A former senior noncommissioned officer, Ms. White was awarded the U.S. Army Commendation Medal for demonstrated leadership skills. She is the author of Project Management for Agile Non-profits and Agile Project Management: A Mandate for the 21st Century.
