Mr. Staples developed PMI's former professional journal, Project Management Quarterly, which was inaugurated in April 1970. He served as editor, publisher and publications chairman until 1972, at which time he was elected secretary of PMI. He later served PMI as vice president-member services from 1977 to 1978, chair of the PMI Ethics Committee, and was also an organizer and planner for PMI Seminars & Symposia in 1970, 1972 and 1984. Additionally, he presented on “Pharmaceutical R&D Project Management” at pre-PMI Symposia workshops. He served twice as PMI Nominating Committee chair, as project manager for the study of potential PMI certification of project management software, and advisor to PMI’s Pharmaceutical R&&D Specific Interest Group. Also active at the chapter level, Mr. Staples was on the board of directors of the PMI Delaware Valley Chapter. In 2000, Mr. Staples retired from his position of Interim Chair of Division of Science, Mathematics and Engineering Technologies at Central Virginia Community College in Lynchburg, Virginia, USA. He continues to serve in many different roles for his church and his community.
