Thomas Walenta has been a member of PMI since 1992 and a member of GPM (IPMA) since 1995. After obtaining his PMP in 1998, he became involved with leadership of the PMI Frankfurt Chapter, serving as its president from 1998 to 2005. During that time, Mr. Walenta also served in a variety of PMI volunteer positions at global level, such as helping to create the first editions of The Standards for Program and Portfolio Management, juror of the Project of the Year award and reviewing REP applications. He was an influencer to PMI for European chapter and member interests. In 2012, he received the PMI Fellow award, which was granted only to 72 individuals. He is a PMP since 1998, a PgMP since 2014 and received a company director diploma from IoD.
In 2005, Mr. Walenta was elected as a member of the PMI Board of Directors for the term 2006-2008. In this period, he was a member of the Board Governance Committee in 2007 and 2008. Since 2011, Mr. Walenta has served on PMI's Ethics Review Committee, in 2016 as its Chair. He was elected to his second term to serve on the PMI Board 2017-2019.
Mr. Walenta worked for IBM from 1983 to 2014. He decided to pursue a career in project management in 1988 and founded his own company in parallel to his employment in 2001. He is now offering interim (temporary) management, training, consulting for project and program management, is a global public speaker and author.
