Mr. Bowman joined PMI in 1979 and in 1984 became the eighth person to earn the Project Management Professional (PMP)® certificate. He is the cofounder and executive director emeritus of the Pittsburgh Project Management Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA. Mr. Bowman was also a founding member and served as president of the PMI Pittsburgh Chapter and vice president–technical activities in 1998, receiving numerous awards for his contributions. In addition, he served as PMI’s vice president of technical activities in 1998, as a member of the Executive Committee of the PMI Board of Directors in 1999, and then continued as a director-at-large on the PMI Board in 2000. Mr. Bowman also served on the PMI Educational Foundation board of directors as president in 1998 and 1999.From October 2007 through February 2012, Mr. Bowman served as an American National Standards Institute (ANSI) U.S. technical representative to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and secretary of the ISO PC 236 Working Group 2 (Processes) during the development of the first international standard of project management: ISO 21500, Guidance on Project Management.
