Yanping Chen, MD, PhD, PMP

Yanping Chen is the president of the University of Management and Technology (UMT). Working with the PMI Educational Foundation, UMT offers academic scholarships to promote project management higher learning. Her volunteer involvement with PMI began in 1992 when she served the PMI Certification Committee as its deputy director. She was instrumental in facilitating PMI’s collaboration with the Chinese government to launch the Project Management Professional (PMP)® exam in China in the 1990s. In addition, she led the effort to translate A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide)—2000 Edition into Chinese. She served on PMI Registered Education Provider (R.E.P.) advisory group to establish and mature the PMI R.E.P. program from 2000-04. Dr. Chen served on PMI Board of Directors from 2005 to 2010. While on the Board, she held the position in 2008 of PMI vice chair, and chaired two task forces on PMI Core Values and PMI Board Building. Still an active PMI volunteer, she is currently serving on the PMI Certification Governance Council (CGC) for the terms of 2011-13 and 2014-16. She served as PMI CGC Chair in 2014-15. Among her more than 20 scholarly publications, she co-authored a popular project management textbook, Principles of Contracting for Project Management (1st and 2nd Edition).
