Matt Tomlinson is a technical product director at Indeed, where he runs a cloud economics team that leverages FinOps practices to help connect millions of people with employment. A lifelong entrepreneur, Mr. Tomlinson’s journey started at the age of 16, when he formed his first technology startup in his parents’ garage. He served five years as a communications officer in the U.S. Air Force and spent a decade working for various consulting and technology startups in Washington, D.C. He received the prestigious Booz Allen Hamilton “Values in Practice” award for his program management work for the U.S. Secretary of Defense.

Interested in a new challenge, Mr. Tomlinson pivoted his career to the entertainment field and joined Electronic Arts to run their customer experience innovation lab. There, he pioneered language models to improve player engagement. He was awarded two patents for his work in this area and shared his insights of artificial intelligence (AI) at the Gartner Symposium and the IPsoft Digital Workforce Summit.

Mr. Tomlinson has been an active volunteer at PMI for more than 14 years, working on exam development, program management role delineation studies and The Standard for Program Management – Third Edition. He chaired the Certification Governance Council and consulted on the global practice analysis of professionals across a diverse spectrum of occupations. He currently serves on the PMI Board of Directors where he works on the Compensation and Talent Committee and has chaired the Strategy Oversight Committee.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Texas Christian University and the Program Management Professional (PgMP)® and Project Management Professional (PMP)® certifications. He is the proud father of three fiercely independent girls and is trying his best to teach them how to impact the world positively.
