Mark A. Langley, President & CEO of Project Management Institute, to retire 30 November

Philadelphia, PA

The Board of Directors of the Project Management Institute (PMI) today announced that Mark A. Langley, President & CEO, will be retiring from PMI effective 30 November 2018.

I am honored to have led PMI through the last several years of significant growth as we approach the Institute's 50th anniversary, said Langley. As PMI continues through its digital transformation, this is a good time to begin transitioning to leadership that will drive the Institute to even greater heights in its next half century.

Mark has helped PMI become the strong global organization it is today, and we would like to express our gratitude for his many years of dedicated service,” said Caterina La Tona, Chair of the 2018 Board of Directors. “Mark’s leadership team, the entire staff and the army of dedicated global volunteers have worked to solidify PMI as the most influential and authoritative project management association in the world.”

PMI currently has members in nearly every country who are served by 300 chapters around the world. There are 1.4 million professionals who have been certified by PMI. Poised to become the association of the future, PMI has launched a digital transformation.

PMI's Board of Directors and Langley would like to take this opportunity to thank the entire organization and volunteer community for their hard work, continued support and ongoing commitment that have advanced the profession and PMI.

To ensure continuity between now and when the new CEO begins, the PMI Board of Directors has asked Joe Cahill, Senior Vice President of Finance & Administration, to take on day-to-day operations of the Institute during the transition period.

The PMI Board of Directors will initiate a search for Langley’s replacement. During the search process, PMI will continue its mission to delivery strong value for its entire membership and the project management profession. Langley will participate in development of a smooth transition plan during the search process.
