Pearson VUE and Project Management Institute (PMI) bring increased credentialing options to U.S. military

Philadelphia, pa

Pearson VUE, the global leader in computer-based testing, is expanding access to high demand project management certifications for United States military personnel through its partnership with the Project Management Institute, Inc. (PMI). PMI supports the military, veterans and their families, providing them with opportunities to advance their professional capabilities in project management.

As of July 1, 2019, all of the institute’s exams are available to take at Pearson VUE Authorized Test Centers at U.S. military bases.

As the Department of Defense (DoD) continues its investment into professional credentialing of the forces, project management certifications are becoming an increasingly in-demand area, both in and out of service.

According to research by PMI, employers will need 87.7 million individuals working in project management-oriented roles by 20271. The military and federal government use project management in a variety of different jobs functions, currently posting hundreds of roles with project management as a specific requirement.

With 1.3 million service members currently in active duty and a further 200,000 transitioning to civilian life annually, Pearson VUE’s testing network on military bases provides a convenient solution for certifying active duty and transitioning military personnel.

According to CareerOneStop, the career, training, and job search website for the U.S. Department of Labor, five of the eight certifications PMI offers are considered “in demand” as they are frequently mentioned in online job postings. Additionally, six certifications are considered to draw on training and experience gained in certain military occupational specialties as listed on the Credentialing Opportunities On-Line (COOL) websites. Information about how each exam is aligned is available on each military branch’s COOL website.

“In our project-driven world, organizations of all shapes and sizes are increasingly recognizing the value of having a skilled workforce to deliver successful projects and business outcomes,” said Michael DePrisco, Vice President, Global Solutions at Project Management Institute, Inc. “Through their active service, military personnel gain valuable project management skills that are transferable to all types of industries. Hiring individuals with this project expertise is a smart strategy for any organization aiming to meet or exceed its business goals.”

Areas being assessed through PMI’s certifications include leading cross-functional teams to ensure accomplishment of mission objectives (strategic leadership skill), managing budgets, conflict mediation and performance appraisal (soft skills).

“We’re proud to be working with the military in its continued drive to support the transition of active duty service members to civilian life, as well as veteran employment,” said Eric D'Astolfo, Vice President, Business Development, Pearson VUE. “Our test delivery will further strengthen PMI’s links with this workforce, enabling members to leverage valuable skills gained in active service and pursue their personal goals in project management.”
