In 2017, PMI shared a promise to redefine what it means to be a professional association, and to support individuals who practice project, program and portfolio management in becoming indispensable within their organizations. We recognized an opportunity to better provide our stakeholders with significant support at key points in their career journeys in today’s competitive, fast-paced work environments.
We went directly to the market to engage in conversations with project, program and portfolio managers and used that information to create a sharpened strategic focus. We are committed to customer centricity and are driven by an agility to sense and respond to market needs. We are working to empower people to make ideas a reality, leveraging our three pillars of the transformation – strategic focus, customer-centricity and organizational agility – to be the association of the future.
In 2018, much of our transformational work was focused on strengthening our capabilities as a foundation for future work. Some of our achievements included:
- Designed approach to customer experience, products, Go-To Market, activation of customer segmentation
- The establishment of a Transformation Management Office to ensure the strategic alignment and integration of all of our projects
- The launch of PM Basics, an online Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)® certification prep course, and PM Edge™, a resource for professionals who are new to project management to learn the language and become more trusted and credible teammates
We’ve had tremendous growth and progress in areas including strategy, application development, data and analytics, innovation, content, organizational change management, and culture. After completing initial conceptualization and design phases in many of our transformational projects, our energy will now transition to optimizing the products and services that we offer – from membership to certifications to our standards – whether by honing our current offerings or introducing new products to market developed by us or through strategic partners.
As our transformation journey continues, our stakeholders can expect to see faster, more flexible approaches that make project management and related ways of working more relevant in today’s changing business landscape.
