Standards
The 2019 publication of The Standard for Earned Value Management marked the most recent addition of an ANSI National Standard to PMI’s portfolio, delivering a valuable new offering for organizations and U.S. Government agencies. We also released The Standard for Risk Management in Portfolios, Programs, and Projects; The Practice Standard for Scheduling – Third Edition; The Practice Standard for Work Breakdown Structures – Third Edition; The Practice Standard for Estimating – Second Edition; and Benefits Realization Management: A Practice Guide.
Work also began on the development of the PMBOK® Guide – Seventh Edition, and PMIStandards+, a brand new digital product. Developed through a customer-centric and iterative approach, the new edition of the PMBOK® Guide will be inclusive of the full value delivery landscape, while PMIStandards+ launched as an MVP to deliver PMI’s standards, guides and supplemental content in an accessible, interactive, digital solution. Both products are expected to launch in 2021.

Navigator is the “portal into PMI” - a career development platform for project management professionals. With a comprehensive self-assessment of skills, interests, and goals, Navigator offers a personalized action plan to achieve growth goals and directs users to the opportunities PMI can provide to grow their skills.

Baseline is “PM for non-PMs”, a light educational web app teaching the essentials of project and product management to people brand new to the field. It includes mini lessons with activities to reinforce learning and templates learners can use to run their project immediately.
Baseline was also PMI’s first offering co-created in partnership with members of the Global Executive Council.

Study Hall was released as PMI’s first ever digital exam enablement tool to provide support and assistance to individuals who are preparing to take one of PMI’s certification.

New PMP in 2020
The PMP certification has long been considered the “gold standard” of the profession - distinguished from competitors for its rigorous certification process that demonstrates commitment, its global recognition, and its credibility in designating someone as holding real-world project management experience.
Every 3 to 5 years, PMI conducts exhaustive research to determine how the project management profession has progressed, the impact of emerging trends, and how the responsibilities of project managers have changed. We ran a new round of research in 2019 and experts from leading organizations around the world worked with us to define the PMP of the future.
As we identified, project professionals need more diverse skills and approaches than ever before. The PMP is evolving just like the profession; that’s why the future exam will focus on three new domains – people, process, and business environment, with content that spans the value delivery spectrum, including predictive, agile, and hybrid approaches across all three domains.
The new exam is currently slated for launch in early 2021.
