How Do I Earn PMI-CP Certification?

The PMI-CP is a valuable asset to your construction management career. Pursuing it is a commitment that requires you to meet certain criteria.

Step Number 1

Complete Seven Course Modules

You must complete 3 micro-credentials (earned after each course with related exam) and 4 eLearning courses for a total of 7 modules.

Each self-paced module requires a 4–6-hour time commitment. Additionally, once you complete each module, you earn PDUs that can be used toward other certification renewals.

PMP step number 2

Work Experience

To qualify for the PMI-CP, you must have 3 years of on-the-job experience (within the last 10 years) working on construction projects or in the built environment field.

Step Number 3

Apply to Take the Certification Exam

Once you complete your prerequisites, you’ll be eligible to submit your PMI-CP application.

With eligibility confirmed, you'll be able to schedule and take the exam either at a testing center or as an online, proctored exam.

Step Number 4

Prepare for and take the Exam

The PMI-CP exam is a capstone that evaluates and verifies the culmination of your coursework, industry knowledge, and experience as a construction professional.

Maintain Your Certification

The requirement for maintaining this certification is 30 PDUs within a 3-year window. The associated micro-credentials, which are a part of this curriculum do not expire.
