The Digital PM: Managing your Projects Using Open Source PM Software

A step by step workshop that will take you through the stages a PM organizes a project in a Project Management application. Given the intensity of projects, today’s PMs have at their disposition several different applications by which they can increase efficiency and effectiveness of their project management efforts. Project Management applications are developed based on frameworks’ and standards’ processes.

During initiation, a PM might use the software to develop the estimates and understand Resource Capacity requirements the project might have. During planning, the PM will use the application to develop the project’s baselines upon which the performance of the project will be monitored and controlled. During Execution and Controlling stages, the PM will compare actuals with baselines to understand variances and react accordingly. During the closing stage the PM can use the software for retrospectives and lessons learned.

Andreas Solomou is actively involved in the field of project management, is a Certified Project Management Professional (PMP)® and a Certified Training Professional (Train-the-Trainer - CTP). He also holds the MCT® (Microsoft Certified Trainer) and MCTS® (Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist) certifications for managing projects using information systems. He is an associate instructor and visiting lecturer at various academic institutes. He has designed, developed and is delivering the “Project Planning Using Software Applications” train-the-trainer program for ECDL/CCS trainers and associates since 2013. He is the author of one of the ECDL’s Project Planning module’s approved examination books.
