Evan Piekara has over twelve years of experience consulting and working in the government and nonprofit sectors. Evan started his nonprofit career as a member of Teach For America (TFA), where he served as a teacher, volunteer, and in operational support and training roles for the organization. In this role, he learned and implemented a number of learning, motivational, and presentation techniques and was recognized as a finalist for the Sue Lehman National Excellence in Teaching Award. Evan earned a Master’s in the Science of Teaching from Pace University, and after four years of teaching in New York City, Piekara moved to Washington D.C, to earn his MBA from Georgetown’s McDonough School of Business (MSB). At Georgetown, Piekara launched Georgetown’s Month of Volunteerism (MoV), a month where MBAs dedicate their time and talents to service. This event annually draws in over 60 partners and 1,400 service hours. Piekara was recognized with Georgetown’s highest leadership award, the Daniel Walker McNeal Award and was also recognized as a Community Fellow for committing over 100 hours of service during the course of his MBA.
After graduation, Evan supported BDO Public Sector in the launch of their management consulting practice and has provided strategy and operations, human capital, and information technology support to government and nonprofit clients. At BDO Public Sector, Evan led efforts building internal practice recruiting processes including interview questions, cases, and candidate evaluation criteria and developed their Graduate Advisor internship program.
Piekara holds a range of professional certifications that have strengthened professional experience in change management, conflict resolution, cyber security, lean six sigma, project management, and total quality management. He has presented on many topics including change management, conflict resolution, and performance measurement and evaluation and developed workshops on government and nonprofit cases. He has served in leadership roles on nonprofit boards including serving as Chair of New Endeavors by Women (NEW), a nonprofit that provides shelter and support services to women and children, and serves as President-elect of Connecticut College’s Alumni Board of Directors and will join the Board of Trustees in July. Piekara also serves on the Board of DC Scholars, a DC charter school. He has leveraged experience in strategic planning, finance, and change management to help these organizations address complex challenges.
