For our October meeting, we welcome Marlon Sims, a 16-year veteran with the Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT) and a Project Manager in the Engineering Division, to begin a conversation on Diversity in the Workplace. The conversation will focus in on three key areas:
- The importance of diversity in the workplace
- The pressures of being the only black/minority in the office during these sensitive times
- Fear of failure/fear of helping other minorities
About the speaker:
Marlon is a deacon at Jenkins Chapel Baptist Church in Amarillo and serves on the Finance Committee. He has volunteered in the North Amarillo community since the early 90s, starting by coaching his nephews and cousins for Kids Inc. and the former YMCA youth sports programs. Marlon has also been blessed to coach his own children in multiple sports for countless years. He now serves as a mentor for the Urban Project, a community boy's mentor program, and on the Amarillo Community Wide VBS board.
Marlon, a lifelong Amarillo native, is proud of the North Amarillo Community, where he currently resides. He and his wife will celebrate 23 years of marriage this month (October). They are the proud parents of four sons, an only daughter and grandparents of four beautiful grandchildren.
