Description

The two-day workshop introduces participants to the urgency of today’s global challenges and the evolution of project management in response, highlighting the drivers behind sustainability’s growing importance and its core characteristics. The format combines presentation-style learning with half-day of breakout sessions, during which each group will develop a sustainability strategy based on a case study using GPM’s P5 Standard. Attendees will gain a clear understanding of the differences between conventional and sustainable project management and acquire practical skills to identify, map, and design strategies for managing sustainability impacts in their projects.

Michael Pace, PhD PfMP, PMP

Dr. Michael Pace is a scholar-practitioner who specializes in simplifying complex concepts for immediate practical application. Academically, Dr. Pace lecturers on project management, strategic management, global entrepreneurship, and sustainable business, helping students establish a firm foundation for future success. Practically, he has more than twenty years’ experience in project management, strategy, governance, and sustainability. Dr. Pace earned his PhD in business management from Capella University and is writing the dissertation for his EdD through the University of Glasgow, researching ignorance and challenges in educating on sustainability. His approaches to sustainability, strategic planning, project management, and leadership are informed by degrees and experience in forensic science, especially including breaking down bigger things to smaller (decomposition) and looking in all directions for guidance (which he learned from courses on profiling and analyzing serial killers). Dr. Pace is a previous and current board member, including chairman and convenor of the board of trustees for Gaia Education, requested speaker on project methods, sustainability, sustainable project management, and author of books, book chapters, and case studies. His consulting focuses include strategic planning and project management. He serves as the head of GPM Research and Learning.
