Solve the Problem not the Symptom

Has your team ever solved a project challenge only to have it surface again? The problem that gets identified is the problem that gets solved. Wouldn’t it be great to corral your team’s effort to identify the real problem and the critical issues that must be addressed to solve a problem?  This session will teach you how to accurately frame the scope of your challenge and to invite alternative perspectives allowing solutions to become apparent. The essence of divergent thinking (a broad search for many diverse and novel alternatives) and convergent thinking (focused and affirmative evaluation of alternatives) and their roles in strategic thinking will be reviewed and practiced. Two new tools that support the identification of critical issues (the problem behind the problem) that must be addressed to move toward desired future will be shared.

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the real problems inhibiting project success and to produce novel and useful solutions
  • Think critically and problem-solve on demand
  • Address complex and ambiguous project challenges
  • Effectively negotiate conflict
  • Apply tools and techniques outlined in the PMBOK® Guide and all Standards documents
