PMO Building Blocks for Successful Strategic Initiative Management with Claudia Baca or Ruth Anne Guerrero

Whether your organization has a PMO or is contemplating creating one, this three-day course offers key principles that will guide PMO leaders in maturing and/or establishing a PMO. An incremental approach (i.e., “building blocks”) is presented that provides an iterative methodology that focuses on selecting and prioritizing “manageable changes” to improve or build a PMO to successfully deliver the organization’s strategy.

This interactive seminar utilizes a very ‘hands-on’ approach, and each student will complete an individualized roadmap for immediate use in their own PMO. Participants will be provided with the tools to determine which aspects of project, program and/or portfolio management will be most appropriate for their organizations, and the extent to which they should be implemented. Participants will evaluate their organization’s culture and maturity to determine the specific PMO functions, the level of rigor, and provided.

What You Will Learn

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Utilize a toolset to effectively determine the current and future states of their PMO
  • Examine a variety of sources and utilize various "lenses" to select and prioritize the appropriate building blocks to improve or establish the results of their individual PMO
  • Develop a customized PMO roadmap that aligns perfectly to their unique organization

Claudia M. Baca PMP

Claudia M. Baca has PMO experience in multiple industries across all disciplines of portfolio, program, and project management. Claudia is an experienced writer and lecturer. She co-authored papers on the effective development of PMOs which were presented at four PMI global congresses. She has written five books on effective project management including the popular, Project Management for Mere Mortal. Claudia was the chair and co-author for Managing Change in Organizations: A Practice Guide, published by PMI.Claudia has improved PMO performance in organizations from a world-wide consumer goods manufacturer (50,000 employees) to a 200 employee mortgage title company.


Ruth Anne Guerrero PMP

Ruth Anne Guerrero has expertise in establishing and managing PMOs, and demonstrating how project management helps organizations improve their project execution and enables the attainment of strategic business goals. As head of US PMO for TD Bank, she was responsible for the $400MM project portfolio and supporting more than 750 project managers and business analysts. Prior to joining TD Bank, Ruth Anne worked at the AmeriHealth Mercy Family of Companies as vice president, PMO. At JPMorgan Chase Cardmember Services, she was responsible for the Project Management Center of Excellence (COE), a project office that supported project managers worldwide.
