Common Sense Leadership for Project Managers with Bob Mason - CANCELLED

Topics: Leadership Development | Communications | Leading Project Teams

Project managers are faced with the dual challenge of not only managing a project but also leading their project team, often consisting of members who are not direct reports. Adding to this challenge, many project managers have had little to no training in effective ways to lead teams, no formal managerial title or authority, and often little understanding of their true role as a team leader.

Common Sense Leadership for Project Managers is a 2-day course that provides tools to help project managers become more effective project leaders. Attendees will learn the basics of great leadership with emphasis on the position many project managers find themselves in – leading with no formal title or position. Attendees will learn more about themselves, how they approach interpersonal relationships, and how they can make relationships less stressful and more productive. A module on accountability explains leadership responsibility and how to best leverage that responsibility to improve the team. By the end of the course each attendee will have a complete draft of a Leadership Philosophy to help them gain better self-awareness while also providing a tool to articulate their leadership approach.

Common Sense Leadership for Project Managers is the culmination of discussions with attendees of other courses over three years and a survey conducted in 2016. Designed to meet the needs of working project managers leading real project teams, the course is presented by instructors with extensive leadership experience who use guided discussion to ensure the material presented is applicable to each attendee.

Seminar Instructor(s)

Bob Mason

Bob is focused on leadership development. His extensive leadership experience has taught him that a large number of the challenges and problems companies face are directly linked to leadership, usually at the supervisor and manager level and so he helps companies meet challenges and solve problems by developing energized leaders, engaged employees, and more effective teams.

During a military career spanning 30 years, Bob was fortunate to learn leadership from some great leaders. Starting with small teams he honed his skills leading ever larger and more complex teams, eventually commanding four different squadrons, including the Air Force's largest munitions squadron. Bob has studied leadership extensively, but more importantly he has been there, working with real people, making hard decisions, and experiencing the results.

On retirement from the Air Force, Bob started a company to bring the effective leadership techniques he learned to the corporate world where he has worked with first-time supervisors, managers, and executives in both profit and non-profit organizations.

Bob is a professional speaker and author and was the 2016 – 2017 President of the New Mexico chapter of the National Speakers Association. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Resource Management, a Master of Science in Aeronautics, and a Master of Business Administration and is the author of four books on leadership. Bob lives in Albuquerque, New Mexico where he and his wife enjoy hiking and exploring the history of the Southwest.
