The accidental profession
Project management has often been called the accidental profession. This article identifies ways that the Project Management Institute (PMI) can influence the growth of educational resources devoted to project management. It lists five ways PMI can assist organizations, including developing a description of project management; preparing a detailed precedence diagram for the project; sponsoring one or more awards for student research in project management; providing a speaker's bureau for project management speakers at student society and seminar sessions; and being a clearinghouse for relaying project management case studies and problems to educational institutions and for relaying research findings to the applications-level practitioners. The article concludes with five ways that PMI can aid individuals.
